Transcript/Translation	1803, December 2 SEBASTIAN DE LA PUERTA Y O'FARRIL, MARQUES DE CASA CALVO, AND JUAN MANUEL DE SALCEDO, NEW ORLEANS, TO PIERRE-JOSEPH FAVROT, PLAQUEMINES. CL. 3pp. Spanish. Richmond. Copy of the Official Letter of the Marques de Casa Calvo and of Dn. Manuel de Salcedo ordering that the Forts of St. Phillip of Plaquemines, Bourbon, and La Balize be turned over to Frigate Captain [Gilberto Leonard] of the French Republic, directed to Commander Dn. Pedro Favrot, Lieutenant Colonel of His Most Catholic Majesty [and] commander of said forts: The retrocession of the province of Louisiana to the French Republic has been verified. The agent of said Republic, Citizen [Pierre Clement de] Laussat, Colonial Prefect, is taking possession of it in the name of said Republic. Thus I advise you to hand Fort St. Phillip over to Frigate Captain Leonard of the French Navy, that he may take command of it in the name of the Republic. Do the same for Fort Bourbon as well as the post of La Balize, where said Captain will send his commanders.
