The first group of buildings in the Southeast Louisiana hospital in St. Tammany parish, is nearing completion.
Lewis Smith, clerk on the job for the hospital board and the architects, earlier this week said eight of the buildings are 95 per cent completed.
Although they constitute only
a portion of the overall new mental institution, they will be put into service by Oct. 1, William J. Kross, chairman of the hospital board, said. When the entire hospital is completed, these buildings will be integrated with others in the project, and service facilities will be adequate, he pointed out, to care for the entire institution with a maximum of 1500 patients. Six of the buildings in final stages will house patients. A huge powerhouse has been nearly finished, and a refectory with ultramodern kitchens and five dining rooms, four for the patients, is among the other structures.
