The tots were strangely quiet. They were obviously not as- sembled for a picnic. They looked too concerned, despite the com- forting words of their mothers, aunts, big sisters and a kind man in spectacles whom everybody called Doc.
They were waiting to go inside and get there whooping cough, tetanus, smallpox and diphtheria shots.
The parents of these children had been alerted as to the importance of immunization against the four most dreaded diseases of childhood.
First Step in Survey
They had been interviewed by two earnest young men who spent the summer ringing, doorbells of every house in Bridge City.
The men, Dr.:Alton M. Parker and Dr, Alexandre C. Miller, LSU senior medical students and Jefferson parish health unit ex-terns, have just completed the first phase of an immunization
survey.. The survey, under the direction of Dr. Lee— Russel B. Centanni, Jefferson parish health director, is the; first of its kind to be reported in the United States.
