Excerpted text	The tranquilizing drugs.were termed a wonderful boon here Thursday in helping empty the mental institutions of the nation. "They're bringing the mental patients out of the back rooms into the front rooms and they're helping empty the front rooms" said Dr. Perrin H. Long, Brook-yn, N. Y., editor of "Medical Times." Dr. Long said, "Never before in history has the number of admissions to mental hospitals in Cites Test With 1500 Tne visiting physician, who is a brigadier, general in the Army; Reserve, termed the tranquil-; izers "mild bringers of peace of mind." He said, "if you believe they're going to help you, maybe they will. It's a psychological thing." Praise of the drug—chlorothiazide—came Thursday afternoon during a symposium on "Newer Diuretic Agents." "Snake root is only effective in mild cases of high blood pressure" said Dr. John Moyer of Philadelphia, Penri., who jNew York state been less than the discharges." But the same pills, which are proving such an aid to mental patients, should not be regarded as a cure-all for normal people, cautioned the. physician, a featured speaker at the N. O. Graduate Medical Assembly, which closed Thursday at the Roosevelt hotel.
