Jefferson Parish's two top medical posts are held by women, a unique score for the fairer sex outnumbered by men medics 1-13 nationally; and 1-16 in Louisiana.
They are Drs. Ellen Pickard MacKenzie. presi-dent of the JeTferson Parish Medical Society, and
Hilda Reynaud, acting director of the Jefferson Parish Health Unit.
Dr. MacKenzie, believed to be the only woman currently heading a parish or county medical society, piloted the 93-member group during its largest project, the recent polio-vaccine campaign. She's active also in the society's fight against venereal disease and tetanus.
Dr. Reynaud is the first woman director of the health unit since its formation over 20 years ago. She directs all aspects of the parish's preventive medicine program which includes immunization, rabies control, treatment of venereal disease and tuberculosis, sanitary inspection of eating and drinking places, and daily analysis of all milk and
dairy products.
