Excerpted text	ARTICLE EXCERPT: Encouraging progress has been made by medical science against poliomyelitis (infantile paralysis) though the ultramicroscopic virus which causes it has not yet been discovered, according to Dr. John A. Kolmer, professor of pathology in Temple University, Philadelphia, and a member of the commission named by President Roosevelt some years ago to study the disease. Speaking at the opening session of the New Orleans Graduate Medical Assembly in The Roosevelt Monday morning, he said that records of 10,725 persons receiving the vaccine treatment have been carefully kept. Of that number, no person who received the full three injections developed the disease; but nine persons who had taken only one or two injections did contract it. Whether or not the disease was already incubating in them, or whether it was caused by the virus in the vaccine, Dr. Kolmer does not know; he inclines towards the former view. Practically all of these vaccinations, he said, were in territory where the disease was epidemic (in the outbreak of 1935) 31 per cent of the subjects were under 4 years of age, 60 per cent between 4 and 15, 9 per cent 15 and older.
