The USS HARTFORD, launched 22 November 1858 and commissioned 27 May 1859, was a " screw sloop of war”. She was 220' long, 44' wide, with a speed of 13.5 knots. She carried 42 guns, with a crew of 304, officers and enlisted. During the Civil War she served as flagship for Flag Officer David G. Farragut, the commander of the West Gulf Blockading Squadron . The recto carries the printed text, "Entered according to Act of Congress, November 10th, 1864, by McPherson & Oliver, in the clerks office of the District Court of the U. S., for the Eastern District of Louisiana. The verso inscribed, "Hartford." |
