Messrs. Meeker Williamson & Patton
Amsterdam 14 April 1808
at New Orleans
Gentlemen !
Our last respects are dated of March which we beg
leave to Request your reference to. Meanwhile trade has
been here in a singular and quite forced Situation in which
it still remains , because no arrivals took place and actually
the daily Sales have tended to occasion some diminution
in the existing Stocks to ascertain those of some articles
is very difficult of others it is easy as there is next to
nothing except among a few Retailers : we shall therefore
consider our Commerce in its effects in this division & in the
first class find the Coffees of which there is perhaps as much

class as there are none at hand. The demand for Maryland
Virginia & [Menbricky?] has revived after a shore- momentary
Slackness and several orders exist limited [sic.] at prices under
13 [Suo?] which cannot be effected as the holders refuse to sell
persuaded that soon common Shelf will be paid 12 1/2 . and
whereas many parcells [sic.] have gone from one hand in the
other Vice Versa it is quite impossible to ascertain the
existing Stock which however we may fairly estimate
not
