$49,0 Grant Made
To LSUS Med School
A $49,092 grant has been
awarded to Louisiana State
University Medical Sci.ool at
Shreveport to improve the un-dergraduate
pulmonary disease
program.
Announcement of the grant
from the National Heart and
Lung I n s t i t u t e of the U.S.
Department of Health, Educa-tion
and Welfare, came in a
press release from Louisiana
Rep. Joe D. Waggonner and
Senators Russell B. Long and
Allen J. Ellender.
The grant is expected to be
renewed for about $40,000 a year
for four more years, and "is
tentatively renewable for three
more years after that." aecord-ing
to Dr. Ronald B. George,
project director. '
George is associate professor
in the Department of Medicine
and chief of the Pulmonary
Disease Section at the medical
school.
Tne money will be used "for
training of undergraduate (med-ical)
students specifically, with
emphasis on pulmonary dis-ease,"
George said.
The funds will be used for
equipment, teaching aides, sala-ries
for consultants and for
training of personnel, he added.
