December 21. 1972 Dr. Rod Yeager Confederate Director Appointed By Margaret Martin Times Medical Writer Dr. Rod M. Y e a g e r , 32, yesterday was named director of Confederate Memorial Medi-cal Center at an annual salary of $30,000. Immediately after the ap-pointment was announced, Dr. Yeager stressed that the needs of patients will receive top priority at the medical center. Robert C. Hall, who has been serving as acting director of the hospital since last fall, will become director of administra-tion, Yeager said. And, Yeager, who has been serving as medi-cal director since Oct. 1, will name a medical director at a later date. Serving as assistant adminis-trator on an emergency basis is Joe Germany. In addition, Yeager said he considers the addition of two more assistant administrators at the hospital "a necessity — not a luxury." As director of administration, Hall will be in c h a r g e of b u s i n e s s matters, while the medical director will be in charge of all medical affairs. Came Here Last Year Yeager came to Shreveport last year as chief of the cardiac surgery for the LSU Medical School at Shreveport. He said he will continue to serve on the c a r d i o v a s c u l a r staff at Confederate, and plans to con-tinue teaching at Confederate. Yeager's salary as assistant professor of surgery at the medical school was $26,000 and since October he has received an additional $6,000 by contract from Confederate for work as medical director, according to Robert Graves, business manag-er for the medical school. Dr. Edgar Hull, dean of the school, said Yeager would stay on the medical school staff. He said Yeager would not receive his entire salary, but salary adjustments will be made. He did not elaborate about Yea-ger's status with the school. "My primary interest has always been clinical," he said. But he emphasized that the directorship of Confederate will be full time. He said a study will be made in determine the patient needs and how best to institute program to accomplish this. Under his administration. HIP needs of the hospital will be defined and "we will decide how best to meet these needs once they are defined." he said.
