REVEPORT-BOSSIER CITY, LA., SATURDAY, AUGUST 26, 1972 TODAY'S NEWS TODAY—W
As Hopital Director—
CMMC Board Accepts Galloway Resignation
The resignation of Confeder-ate
Memorial Hospital direc-tor
Dr. Edgar Galloway was
accepted, by the board Friday
night. The resignation is to be
effective when a new adminis-trator
is found.
In a letter to board chair-man
Harold K. Quinn, Dr.
Galloway said he has enjoyed
his work and believe he is still
mentally and physically capa-ble.
"However, you may con-sider
this as my resignation at
a time suitable to you should
you or your board wish to
appoint someone else." the
I 78-year-old director said.
QUINN SAID he has al-
I ready gotten approval from
the Division of Administration
to draw up a r e t i r e m e n t
agreement for Galloway who
began with the hospital when
he was 60 and is not eligible
for the retirement rolls.
The final vote on the resig-nation
resolution was unani-mous
after it was amended to
read "until the committee
finds someone to t a k e Dr.
Galloway's place.
Directors a l s o said they
would meet with Gov. Edwin
Edwards Monday morning to
ask him to help get $4,435,200
in capital improvement funds
which would be combined with
some $8 million in equiDment
and matching funds for a
five-year renovation program.
THE MODERNIZATION
plan called for $4,435,200 in
architectural, plumbing and
electrical alterations and
modifications to the building.
It also includes addition of air
conditioning.
Dr. George Meneely, associ-ate
dean of the medical
school, said three factors —
deferred maintenance, physi-cal
absolenscence and func-t
i o n absolescense — have
brought the hospital to a
crisis.
Quinn also announced that
the Division of Administration
has given approval for hiring
of a person to collect ineligi-ble
patient funds.
He said he feels the hospital
could be air conditioned with
money generated from the
collection department.
A REQUEST from Dr. Jo-
Department of Pediatrics, to
pay staff members for work-ing
at night because of the
absence of r e s i d e n t s was
deferred.
Meneely said that because
the staff members were paid
by LSU, any such request
should come through the dean
and not directly to the board.
The board also said yes to
merit raises for 754 Civil
Service employes in the hospi-tal.
The board also approved a
request from Dr. B. E.
Trichel, Urologist, to allow
use of the dialysis equipment
for an 11-year-old youth.
THE BOARD asked that the
youth's family pay what it
could to the hospital, but
approved use of the three-day-
a-week treatment.
The youth is presently in
New Orleans where he under-went
a kidney transplant
which failed.
