12 A Friday, Feb. 25, 1972 THE SHREVEPORT TIMES
This "Hospital On Wheels" has been used by Dr.
Charles L. Black, Shreveport surgeon, to provide free
medical service to rural areas of Mexico for the past
several summers. Dr. Black, who outfitted the camper
at his own expense, joined Sister Margaret McCaffrey
and Mrs. Jacques L. Wiener as recipients of
Brotherhood Citations at the sixth annual Brotherhood
Citation Dinner last night at Convention Hall. (Times

Brotherhood Citations Given 3 Shreveporters
An e s t i m a t e d 400 persons
were on hand to witness the
presentation of Brotherhood Ci-t
a t i o n s to three Shreveport
citizens last night at the sixth
a n n u a l Brotherhood Citation
Dinner in Convention Hall.
Receiving the awards were
Dr. Charles Black, Sister Mar-garet
M c C a f f r e y and Mrs.
Jacques Loeb Wiener.
Black, a local surgeon, is
noted for his trips spent in a
free missionary field medical
service in Mexico. A native of
Westlake, he is a graduate of
Louisiana State University in
Baton Rouge and the L.S.U.
Medical School in New Orleans.
He began private practice in
Shreveport in 1947.
Sister Margaret is coordinator
of the Christian Service Pro-gram
in Shreveport. A native of
Birmingham, Ala., she is a
member of the Catholic Order
of Missionary Servants of the
Most Blessed Trinity.
Active in Community
Mrs. Wiener is a native of
Little Rock, Ark., ana has lived
in Shreveport since 1932. She
has helped to develop such
community projects as the Toy
Loan Centers, Sick Loan Closet,
Golden Age Group and Meals on
Wheels. She has also twice
served as chairman of the
Women's Division of the Shreve-port
J e w i s h Federation and |
twice as president of the Council
of Jewish Women, Shreveport
Section.
Winners of the Brotherhood
I Essay Contest were also an-nounced.
Nancy Susan Meier,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. J.
Meier, was the recipient of a
I first place scholarship of $200.
Ruthann Quindles, daughter of
I Mrs. M. D. Quindles, finished
second and was awarded $100.
I Vicky Williams, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. J. C. Williams III,
I took third and $50 scholarship.
All three are students at St.
Vincent's Academy.
The essay contest is sponsored
a n n u a 11 y by the Shreveport
Chapter of the National Confer-ence
of Christians and Jews,
The scholarships are provided
by the Louis Selber Memorial
Fund. Entries from junior and
senior high school students at
both public and p a r o c h i a l
schools are judged by members
of the English department at
Centenary College.
