[Professor Honored
By Medical Society
Shreveport's Medical
Society Saturday night
honored Dr. Adrian Reed
with its prized Distinguished
Service Award for outstand-ing
contributions to
medicine.
Dr. Reed is professor and
head of the department of
anatomy at Louisiana State
University School of
Medicine in Shreveport, a
post he has held since 1968.
The award is presented
each year as a highlight of
the Shreveport Medical
Society's annual banquet at
which new officers and
board members are also in-stalled.
Dr. Reed is a native of
Terre Haute, Ind. He re-ceived
his B.A. degree from
DePauw University in 1928,
his MA. degree from
"Cornell University in 1931
and in 1933 earned his Ph.
D. degree from Cornell. He
received his M.D degree
from Tulane University in
1943.
He served as "an intern
;and house officer at McLeod
Infirmary, Florence, S.C.,
and while there won the
"Outstanding Award" for
Intern-Resident House
Physician
From 1960 to 1962 he was
associate professor of in-ternal
medicine at Tulane
and in 1962 was appointed
professor.
The Distinguished Service
Award cited him for his de-dication
to medical students
as well as the medical com-munity.
Dr. Albert Bicknell, outgo-ing
president of the
Shreveport Medical Society,
presented the award to Dr.
Reed, and announced the
new officers and directors.
Dr. Herbert Tucker is the
new p r e s i d e n t . A
cardiologist, Dr. Tucker is a
native of Hammond and
earned his B.S. and M.D.
degrees from Louisiana
State University School of
Medicine. He served his in-ternship
and residency at
Charity Hospital in New
Orleans and in 1949 moved
to Shreveport to practice in-ternal
medicine.
Other officers are Dr. E.
C. Simonton, president-elect;
Dr. Reed, first vice
president; Dr. U. H. Stoer,
second vice president; Dr.
Ben Singletary, secretary;
Dr. Gene W. Slagle,
treasurer, and Dr. C. H.
Webb, historian.
New members of the
board are Dr. Dean Griffen,
Dr. Don D Joffrion, Dr.
Fred Price, Dr. Michael El-lis,
Dr. Helmut Redetzki,
Dr. William A. McBride and
Dr. Loyd C. Megison Jr.
