26 Scholarships,
Awards Presented
Louisiana State University
School of Medicine in
Shreveport has presented 26
scholarships and awards to
medical students.
Ten students were select-ed
for $1,800 per year C.
and F. Keen Memorial
Scholarships, financed by a
donation from the local
chapter of the American
Cancer Society from a
legacy, by the C. and F.
Keen Estate.
Recipients, chosen largely
on the basis of academic ex-cellence,
are:
Phillip Rozeman of
Shreveport, Curtis Ryder of
Lake Charles and Joseph A.
Sonnier III of Shreveport,
all freshmen; Cynthia Ann
Black of Ringgold, William
Randall Brown of DeRidder
and Richard Dwight
Griswold, of Lincoln, all
second - year students;
Marion Nelson Cash of West
Monroe and Ronald Page
Knobloch of Lafayette, both
third - year students; and
Kirk Anthony Hayes of
Morgan City and Edward
Michael Keating Jr. of
Crowley, fourth - year stu-dents.
Thomas J. Mims Jr. is the
senior student selected to
receive the Edgar Hull
Scholarship, a scholarship
provided by a contribution
by the 1973 senior class and
named for the medical
school's first dean.
George D. Edwards was
presented the LSU School of
Medicine in Shreveport
Honor Award — $270 an
academic year. He was
nominated by Dean Ike
Muslow for the award and
selection was made on the
basis of general merit. The
award is for three years,
based on scholastic criteria.
Receiving the Southern
Medical Association Student
Scholarship was Bruce E.
Wheeler. The award is $500
for partial payment of tu-tion
and the recipient is re-commended
by the dean
with academic excellence as
a major consideration for
the award.
Gerald A. Stagg was win-ner
of the George David
Stewart Memorial Award
for Excellence in the Study
of Human Anatomy. The
award is presented annually
to the student who, during
his freshman year, is select-ed
by the Department of
Anatomy as having been
outstanding in the subject.
The award is $100 and a pla-que,
presented by the fami-ly
of the late George David
Stewart.
Five students were select-ed
by the Committee on Stu-dent
Affairs to receive an
award that allows them to
select one Moseby Book
priced at $30 or less. They
are:
Michael K. Amacker,
Thomas M. Deas Jr.,
Ferney A. Moore III, Paul
A. Reihl and Arthur L.
Ruckman.
David McKowen Jr. was
awarded the Sherman Mat-thews
Pathology Prize, a
cash award given by the
Department of Pathology to
the student who had the
highest scholastic mark in
the basic science sophomore
course in pathology. It is in
memory of a member of the
school's first class.
The Roche Award, pre-s
e n t e d by Roche
Laboratories, went to
Patrick A. Duffy, based
largely on academic ex-cellence,
the award is an
engraved watch and
