Houston Firm Submits
Low Med School Bid
H. A. Lott, Inc., a Houston
company, which built V:e As-trodome
in that city, was ap-parent
low bidder for con-struction
of the new Louisi-ana
State University Medical
School at Shreveport. Bids
were opened Tuesday.
H. A. Lott, Inc., submitted a
bid of $23,784,000, the lowest
base bid of any of the nine
companies competing for the
contract. The budget, accord-ing
to Associate Dean George
Meneely, allowed about $24
million. Total project cost is
$30.5 million, and includes
$20,288,242 in federal funds;,
and $10,211,758 in state bond
money.
BIDS WERE opened Tues-day
by LSU-Baton Rouge
purchasing agent George
Schwab at the Veterans Ad-ministration
Hospital, where
the medical school's adminis-trative
offices are located.
Eic*s have been taken under
advisement and must be ap-proved
by the federal agency
responsible for financing the
project.
Announcement of the bidder
Groundbreaking ceremonies
have been scheduled for Sept.
15, at 4 p.m. Gov. John M.
McKeithen will be principal
speaker, with more than 500
invitations being sent out for
the ceremony.
THE NEW facility, with a
1975 completion date, will
have 550,000 gross square feet
and will include five buildings.
It will be the largest building
in North Louisiana and second
in size only to Charity Hospi-tal
in New Orleans.
Associated Medical School
Architects is in charge of the
building design and will super-vise
construction. The three
architectural firms making up
the group are Samuel G.
Wiener & Associates, Wilson &
Sandifer and William B. Wie-ner,
Morgan O'Neal.
