Certification Awarded
Two physicians on the faculty of the
Department of Obstetrics and
Gynecology at LSU Medical Center in
Shreveport have received certification
from the American Board of Obstetrics
and Gynecology.
Drs. James C. DeGueurce III and
Peter S. Kapernick, assistant professors
of obstetrics and gynecology, received
notice of their certification from the
medical specialty board for obstetrics
and gynecology.
Certification is conferred by specialty
boards in various areas of medicine upon
physicians who meet eligibility require-ments
and who demonstrate expertise in
their fields by passing written and oral
examinations.
DeGueurce, a native of Shreveport,
holds his M. D. degree from the LSU
School of Medicine n New Orleans. He
served his internship and residency at
Confederate Memorial Medical Center
(now LSU Hospital). Prior to joining the
faculty at the Shreveport Medical School,
he was in private practice and was
supervisor/instructor of family practice
residents in obstetrics for the Area
Health Education Centers Program, Un-iversity
of Arkansas for Medical
Sciences.
Kapernick, who joined the faculty of
the Department of Obstetrics and
Gynecology in 1978, is a native of
Rochester, Minn. He holds his M. D.
degree from the University of Oregon
Medical School. He served his internship
in internal medicine at Emory Universi-ty
Affiliated Hospitals in Atlanta, where
he also served his residency in obstetrics
and gynecology. Prior to joining the
faculty in Shreveport, Kapernick was
clinical instructor in the Department of
Gynecology and Obstetrics at Emory
University School of Medicine.
