Plans for a new but smaller facility
for the Shrine Hospital for Crippled
Children in Shreveport, oldest of the
Shrine's 21 hospitals, were announced
Tuesday.
The new hospital will replace the 59-
year-old structure at Kings Highway
and Samford Avenue. If feasible, it will
be located on the ~rounds of the present
hosp'ital, which Will remain operational
until the new building is completed.
The replacement hospital will be a
40-bed orthopedic unit, smaller by 20
beds than the present hospital, which
was opened on Sept. 16, 1922. It will be
designed so it can be increased in size, if
necessary.
It is included in a major expansion of
the Shrine's international hospital
network.
Plans for a new orthopedic hospital in
Tampa, Fla., and new hospitals to replace
Shrine orthopedic units here and
