Community in continual need of volunteer help
Do you have some spare time and want to
volunteer your services to the community?
Several area agencies can use some help.
A City Hall tour guide is needed on a
periodic basis. Training is provided. Call Pat
Gobble, 865-4819.
Meals-On-Wheels needs drivers to serve
once a month. Volunteers pick up food at a
central kitchen and deliver food to shut-ins
during the noon hour once a month. (Subs also
needed). Call Darlene DeMoss at 222-0759.
LSU Medical Center has over 70 areas of
volunteer work — including clinics, gift shop,
rocking babies, floor aides, clerical, informa-tion,
chaplain's aides, pediatrics, obstetrics,
emergency room, records, etc. There is a two-hour
minimum each week and some volun-teers
are needed at night and on weekends.

Glen Oaks Home, 1524 Glen Oak Place,
needs volunteers to help residents with
ceramics. Contact Phyllis McNeal, 221-0911.
The American Red Cross needs volunteers
to help instruct CPR or first aid during the
week. Contact Lillian Campisi, 424-1432.
Tutors are needed to help children learn
English with tutorial exercises at schools.

Open Ear needs volunteers to help work in
the crisis intervention program by telephone.
Volunteers receive calls, provide empathetic
ears, make referrals, etc., between 7:30
p.m.-12 p.m. or 1 a.m. Call John Purdy,

Highland Nursing Home needs a piano
player twice a month and an arts and crafts
person to help residents finish gifts for their
families. Visitors/friends are needed for resi-dents
who have no family in the area. Call
Mrs. Putters, 222-2261.
The Allendale Branch of the YMCA needs
craft instructors and assistants. Volunteers
teach persons ages 8 and up how to make such
crafts as pillows, animals, cross stitch, small
ceramic pieces, etc. Call Mrs. Jennett Will-ingham
at 221-4133.
The Christian Service Program needs vol-unteers
to answer the phone, repair, sort and
wrap toys, sort clothes, outfit families, do
clerical work, direct social work and drive on
a year-round basis. Seasonal opportunities are
also available for individuals or groups. Some
homebound work (sewing) is needed. Call
Sister Margaret or Gloria Meyer at 221-4857.
The Caddo-Bossier Day Care Association
needs volunteers to work with children 2-5
years of age in support work... telling stories,
playground activities, classroom work, group
activities, and 1 on 1 activities. Nancy Alex-ander
can direct you to the nearest center.

Schumpert Hospital Guild needs volunteers
to work half a day or one day per week in the
gift shop, information, escort, support ser-vices,
supply, lab, or on floors. Call Peggy
Bennett at 227-4500.
Pilgrim Manor-North in Bossier City needs
women to help with manicures from 10
a.m.-12 on Thursdays. Contact Cleetar Hines
at 742-1623.
The Pelican Council, Girl Scouts, needs
volunteers as leaders, co-leaders and resource
people. Volunteers can often set their own
hours to hold meetings, etc. Age is not impor-tant,
but interest is. Contact Mrs. Honaker,
221-4182.
Evergreen House needs volunteers as skill
trainers and recreation aides. Call Mary Mills
at 221-4182.
The Louisiana Blood Center needs volun-teers
to call previous donors to ask them to
come in to the center to donate. Hours are
flexible hours any Monday through Friday.

Northwest Louisiana State School needs
volunteers to escort residents to activities
from 8 a.m.-10:30 a.m. or 2 p.m.-4:30 p.m. any
day. Lots of walking is involved. Volunteers
are also needed in many other areas during
the day. Call Euginia Beagley at 742-6220.
Virginia Hall Nursing Home needs ceramic
volunteers from 1:30 p.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday and
Thursday. Volunteers are also needed to visit
with residents who haven't any family. Call
Toni Stafford at 425-3247.
Veterans Administration Hospital needs
volunteers.to serve in all areas of the hospital
seven days a week. Minimum service is usual-ly
half a day a week. Escorts, wards, clerical,
lab, book cart, library aide, pharmacy helper,
reception, visitation, physical therapy, psy-chiatry,
community social service, om-budsman
and emergency radio operators are
a few of the areas. Contact Judy Steinfeld at

Caddo Parish Schools needs volunteers in
all schools, but particularly at Hamilton Ter-race,
81st Street and Barret. Volunteers help
tutor, grade, work in the library and serve as
resource people. Homebound workers can
make teaching aids and bulletin boards. Con-tact
