LSU Medical Center in Shreveport
received $68,128 in grants in February
for fellowship, research and training
programs.
The National Institute of Neu-rological
and Communicative Dis-orders
and Strokes, National In-stitutes
of Health, added $22,850 to a
previous award of $50,052 for a study
by Phillip Jobe, Ph.D., professor of
pharmacology and therapeutics. The
project is entitled "A Neurochemical'
Evaluation of the Epilepsy-Prone
Rat."
The National Heart, Lung and Blood
Institute, NIH, awarded a supplemen-tal
grant of $10,738 for a project enti-tled
"Microvascular Adaptations in
Hypertension." Principal investigator
is Russell L. Prewitt Jr., Ph.D., as-sociate
professor of physiology and
biophysics.
The National Institute of Drug
Abuse, Public Health Service,
awarded $17,040 to fund a fellowship
for Steven I. Dworkin, Ph.D., a post-doctoral
fellow in the psychiatry de-partment.
Dworkin's project is enti-tled
"Neurochemistry of the Behav-ioral
Effects of Cocaine."
The Louisiana Chapter of the
Arthritis Foundation awarded $17,500
to fund a clinical services program
under Dr. Robert Wolf, chief of the
rheumatology section.
