Confederate Memorial Hospital
33 Medical School Seniors
Selected to Be Interns Here
Thirty-three senior medical
students have been selected for
training as interns at Confeder-ate
Memorial Medical Center
beginning July 1.
Confederate has a quota of 40
interns in the National Intern
Matching Program. In the pro-gram,
medical students get
preferences of three hospitals.
The h o s p i t a l s , such as
Confederate, rank the students
from one to four. If the medical
students rank the hospitals num-ber
one and the student is in the
quota number, they are automat-ically
matched. If the quota is
not reached, the hospital can
pick up the students who ranked
them number two.
Seventeen doctors are now
serving as interns at the hospi-tal.
Twenty-six of the interns are
from Louisiana State University
Medical School in New Orleans;
three each from the University
of Mississippi and Tulane Uni-versity
medical schools, and one
from the University of Arkansas.
There are 25 from Louisiana,
including five from Shreveport,
and one each from Bossier City.
Springhill and Heflin.
There are four from Mississip-pi
and one each from Arkansas.
Virginia and Florida.
They include one pediatric
intern, Alfred W. Hathorn Jr.,
son of Mr. and Mrs. A. S.
Hathron Sr. of Deville. He is a
student at Louisiana State Uni-versity
Medical School.
The interns from Shreveport
