Clinical Pastoral Training Series
At LSU Medical College Announced
The C o m m i t t e e on Religion and
Medicine of the Shreveport Medical
Society will coordinate a Clinical Pastor-al
Training Course again this year, ac-cording
to Dr. Charles C. Schober, pro-fessor
and head of the Department of
Psychiatry at the Louisiana State Uni-versity
Medical College, in Shreveport.
Schober said that the series of weekly
programs on topics relevant to religion
and medicine would be a continuation of
Parkview Baptist Church.
The course will be held in the nurses'
classroom in the basement of Schumpert
Hospital each Wednesday 1-3 p.m.
beginning Sept. 22.
The first program in the series
concerns value systems in religion and
psychiatry and will be directed by Dr.
Nathan J. Bender, associate clinical
professor of psychiatry at the LSU
School of Medicine.
All programs are under the joint
sponsorship of the Committee of Medi-cine
and Religion, Shreveport Medical
Society; the LSU School of Medicine in
B o s s i e r , and the Shreveport-Bossier
Council of Medicine and Religion.
Schober explained that a $25 registra-tion
fee covers attendance for both
semesters of the course and listed the
following programs in the order of their
presentation, from Wednesday, Sept. 22,
through Wednesday, April 26:
First semester: Value Systems in
Religion and Psychiatry; Stress-Psycho-logical
and Physical; Pre-Marital Coun-selling;
Problems in Marriage; Dealing
with Parents (families) of Physically or
Emotionally Disturbed Children; Adoles-cence
— Its impact on the Adolescent,
his Family and Environment; Suicide
and the Suicidal Person; The Question of
A b o r t i o n ; Personality Development;
Guilt-Normal and Abnormal Variations;
Anger — Dealing with One's Own and
Others.
Second semester beginning Wednes-day,
January 19: Sex Education: How it
is Done and How to Teach Teachers; The
Major Psychoses: Schizophrenia and the
Manic-Depressive Illness; The Paranoid
Person; the Neuroses; Drugs and Drug
Abuse; Sexual Disturbances; Psychso-matic
Conditions; Problems of Aging and
the Elderly; Problems with Alcohol;
Personality Disorders; The Depressed
Person; The Seriously 111 or Dying
Patient; Types of Psychotherapy.
