35 Interns to Train
Here at Confederate
By MARGARET MARTIN
Times Medical Writer
Thirty-five interns have been
selected for training at
Confederate Memorial Medical
Center beginning July 1, accord-ing
to Dr. Rod M. Yeater,
hospital director.
There are 22 rotating interns;
12 straight medicine interns and
one straight pediatric intern.
Of the total, 14 will graduate
in May from the Louisiana State
University Medical School in
Shreveport.
Yeager said he feels the
number of local medical school
graduates, 14, is significant and
reflects the help the school will
give the hospital in supplying
interns in the future. In addi-tion,
six of them are from
Shreyeport and one is from
Bossier City.
Interns are matched to the
hospital through the National
Intern and Resident Matching
Plan, which allots so many
residents and interns to each
approved medical facility.
In the matching plan, medical
students rank the hospitals of
their choice and the hospitals
rank the medical students in
order of choice.
Interns at Confederate get
$550 a month, plus room, board
and laundry.
Confederate has slots for 30
rotating interns; 12 straight
medical interns; four straight
pediatrics interns; one radiolo-gy
intern and one obstetcrics-gy-necology

count approved residencies, be-yong
the internship.
