Training
Fifty students are enrolled
in the second 81-hour
emergency medical technician
training course being
conducted at Confederate
Memorial Medical Center.
Instructor is Dr. Toney W.
Baskin, senior resident in
surgery at Confederate.
The fall course will contain
more detailed information
than the first one, Baskin said.
Twenty students completed
the initial program.
Purpose of the course, the
physician said, is basically to
provide the public with well
trained ambulance and rescue
personnel who are capable of
stabilizing the condition of a
patient at the scene of the
accident and during the
transfer to a hospital
emergency room.
Students who complete the
course are qualified to take an
examination given by the
National Registry of
E m e r g e n c y Medical
Technicians, Baskin said.
Students in the course
include ambulance personnel,
firemen, policemen, nurses
and medical technicians.
The teaching format is a
combination of lectures, films,
and practical demonstrations,
with major emphasis on
practical application. Classes
are held each Wednesday from
7p.m. to 10 p.m.
Future plans in field call for
advanced emergency medical
training for qualified
personnel-
