Edwards Names Boggs
CMMC Board Member
Dr. H. Whitney Boggs,
president of the visiting staff
at Confederate Memorial
Medical Center, has been ap-pointed
CMMC board member
by Gov. Edwin Edwards.
Announcement of the ap-pointment
was made
Tuesday, Harold K. Quinn,
board chairman, said.
The membership for
president of the visiting staff
will be on a revolving-chair
basis, Quinn said. Dr. Boggs'
successors will also be invited
to become board members, he-said.
'We are honored to have
the president of the visiting
staff on our board," Quinn
said. The step will provide a
closer link of communication
between the board and the
visiting staff, he said.
The appointment came at
the request of the CMMC ad-visory
board, which felt that
I the president of the visiting
Dr. H. Whitney Boggs
staff should have a place on
the board, Quinn said.
Making president of the
visiting staff a member of the
board is a step that ideally
should have been taken 20
years ago, Quinn said.
. Dr. .Boggs is associate
professor of clinical surgery
at the Louisiana State Univer-sity
School of Medicine at
Shreveport.
He is a graduate of Byrd
High School, and Centenary
College, and obtained his
medical degree from Tulane
Medical School in 1951. He
served his internship at old
Charity Hospital here,
forerunner of CMMC, and
completed four years of
residency in general surgery
at CMMC.
Dr. Boggs completed his
residency in proctology at
Baylor University Hospital in
Dallas, Tex. He is certified by
the American Board of
General Surgery, the
American Board of Colon and
Rectal Surgery and in 1972
was elected a member of the
Board of Colon and Rectal
Surgery.
Dr. Boggs is a fellow of the
American College of
Surgeons, the American Proc-tologic
Society and the
Southeastern Surgical
Congress.
He is consultant in colon
and rectal surgery at
Barksdale Air Force Base
Hospital and a member of the
visiting staff at all local
hospitals.
In 1969 Dr. Boggs was
chairman of the section of
colon and rectal surgery,
Southern Medical Society, and
he is a past member of the
Louisiana State Board of
Health from the 4th Congres-sional
District.
He is a member of the
American Medical As-sociation,
Southern Medical
Association, Louisiana State
Medical Society, Louisiana
State Surgical Association,
Texas Proctologic Society,
and Piedmont Proctologic
Society.
