Heart Symposium Gets Underway
At Convention Center Friday
The two-day scientific ses-sion
to be conducted here at
the Convention Center Friday
and Saturday — May 14 and
15 —will be "all heart".
Under the auspices of the
Arkansas Heart Association,
the Louisiana Heart Associa-tion,
LSU Medical School in
Shreveport, the A m e r i c a n
Heart Association and the
association's Council on Clin-ical
Cardiology, the sympo-sium
Will feature topics and
events addressed to physi-cians,
nurses and laymen.
"BLOOD FLOW in Coro-nary
arid Pulmonary Arter-ies"
will be the theme of the
sessions for physicians and
nurses and the program will
be acceptable for 9 1/2 pres-cribed
hours by the American
Academy of General Practice.
All interested persons are
invited "to attend the sympo-sium
on "Risk Factor Screen-ing
in Corpnary Artery Dis-ease"
which is aimed at lay
leaders ^n , business, educa-tion,
labor and industry and
which will take place at the
Convention Center from 1:30
to 4 p.m. on Friday, May 14,
Joseph itern, Ph.D. professor,
of pharmacy, Northeast Loui-siana
University, Monroe,
chairman of board of direc-tors,
Louisiana Heart Associa-tion
will preside. The sympo-sium
will cover the problem,
the search for an answer, the
solution- and a panel discus-sion.
THE SESSION for science
teachers is s c h e d u 1 e d for
Saturday, May 15, from 9 a.m.
until noon, at the Convention
Center Annex.
Roland Abegg, Ph.D. Head
of the Zoology Department,
Louisiana T e c h University,
Ruston, will preside at this
session 'which will cover heart
disease, heart research, The
Heart Association and what it
can do for the science teach-er,
and a panel discussion.
Nurses will attend the physi-cians'
session, but will have a
special nurses' program on
Saturday morning at 11:30
when the topic will be "Nurs-ing
Care of Patients witfi
Surgical T r e a t m e n t o f Is-chemic
Heart Disease."
AN EVENT OF Saturday
will be the D u t c h Treat
luncheon at the Convention
Center at 12 o'clock. Guest
speaker will be Helen Corbitt,
consultant for Neiman-Marcus
specialty stores, whose sub-ject
will be "Eat for Your
Heart's Sake".
On the agenda for the ladies
attending the symposium will
be a tour of the city and art
museums and luncheon at a
local country club on Saturday
between the hours of 9:30 a.m.
and 3 p.m.
The President's dinner will
be held Friday night at the
Petroleum Club and members
of the board of, directors for
1971-72 will be elected at a
meeting Saturday afternoon.

professor of medicine at Bay-lor

Orleans.
