Elects Officers
Russell C. Romero of
Metairie has been elected
president of the freshman
class- at the Louisiana State
University Medical School at
Shreveport.
Vice president is Robert K.
Salley of Pineville.
Other officers are Patricia
Lynn Babin of Baton Rouge,
secretary-treasurer; Stephen
H. Norman, of Alexandria
social chairman, and Richard
C. Adams of Baton Rouge,
r e p r e s e n t a t i v e - to the
Executive Council.

Robert K. Salley
Patricia Babin
Seventeen students were
honored at the LSU Medical
School during Convocation
Day yesterday at Confederate
Memorial Medical Center.
Michael Zambie of Monroe,
was named the first recipient
of the Edgar Hull Scholarship.
The award was established by
the first graduating class at
the school in honor of the first
and immediate past dean. It is
given to a senior student at
the beginning of his senior
year. "
David C. Powell of Lake
Charles received the LSU
School of Medicine in
Shreveport Honor Award. The
award of $270 an academic
year is given on the
sophomore level and is
renewable 'for two more
years.
The recipient is nominated
by the dean of the school of
medicine and selection is
based on general merit, but
the student must have
Established a scholastic
standing in the upper
one-fourth of his class.
Two students whose honor
awards were renewed this
year are Glen R. Saucier and
John M. Carrington.
Edward M. Keating Jr. of
Growley and Thomas J. Mims
Jr. of Shreveport received the
George David Stewart
Memorial Award for
Excellence in the Study of
Human Anatomy. The award
is presented annually, to the
student, who, during his
freshman year, has shown the
greatest proficiency in the
subject. The award is $100 and
a plaque and is presented by
the relatives of the late
George David Stewart.
Patricia 'Babin of Baton
Rouge received the $500
Southern Medical Association
Student Scholarship, an
award given by the
a s s o c i a t i o n on
recommendation of the dean.
Academic excellence is a
major factor in consideration
of the scholarship which is
given to a member of the
incoming freshman class.
The Moseby Book Awards
went to Stanley Smith, Aaron
Polk, Nealan Prather, Eddie
Johnson III and Larry
Broad well, and the Lange
Publications awards went to
Paul Riehl, Stephen Keasler,
Arthur Liles, Jeri Rasch and
John Whitaker.
