The possibility increased last
night that legislation relative to
the establishment of a post-graduate
branch of Louisiana State
University Medical School at Con-federate
Memorial Medical Cen-ter
here may be introduced at the
State Legislative session opening
Monday.
Th new shot in the arm came
in the form of a resolution by
the Fourth District Medical
Society unanimously endorsing
the school proposal as outlined
previously by Dr. Edgar Hull,
assistant dean of the LSI* Med-ical
School.
Dr. Hull outlined the proposal
Thursday night at a meeting of
the visiting staff of Confederate
Memorial which also voted unani-mous
approval of the plan.
Dr. Tom J. Smith, chairman of
Confederate Memorial's board of
directors, also expressed confi-dence
at last night's meeting of the
Fourth District Society that the
board will endorse the proposal at
its next meeting "if enough en-thusiasm
in the idea was shown."
He made the statement prior to
the Society's affirmative vote on
the proposal.
Last night's meeting, attended by
half a dozen state legislators, was
especially called by the Fourth Dis-trict
Society to consider the post-graduate
school proposal.
The legislators indicated at the
end of the meeting that they would
take under consideration during
the forthcoming legislative session
the possibility of introducing the
necessary legislation approving
the school and allocating funds for
the building.
