Breffeilh Trichel Pou
Three Local Physicians Named
LSU Med School Dept. Heads
Louisiana State University
School of Medicine in Shreve-port,
through Dean Edgar Hull,
today announced the appoint-ments
of three Shreveport
physicians to head its Depart-ments
of Ophthalmology, Oto-laryngology,
and urology.
Dr. Louis A. Breffeilh was
named head of the Department
of Ophthalmology. Dr. Jack
Wendell Pou wil head the
Department of Otolaryngology,
and Dr. Burdette E. Trichel
was appointed head of the
Department of Urology.
IN ADDITION to their new
duties as professors and de-partment
heads at the local
medical school, they will con-tinue
their private practices.
Dr. Breffeilh also will contin-ue
to serve as Chief of the
Ophthalmology S e r v i c e at
Confederate Memorial Medical
Center, the principal teaching
hospital of the medical school.
Dr. Breffeilh was born in
Shreveport. He attended Loyo-la
University of South in New
Orleans and then Louisiana
State University School of
Medicine in New Orleans where
he received the Doctor of Medi-cine
Degree in 1939. His in-ternship
was completed at
Shreveport Charity Hospital and
his residency was served at
North Louisiana (Doctors) Hos-pital
in Shreveport. He com
pleted the three-year postgra
duate Fellowship in the De-partment
of Ophthalmology,
LSU School of Medicine in New
Orleans. There he also served
as clinical i n s t r u c t o r in
Ophthalmology (1946-48) and as
assistant clinical professor of
Ophthalmology (1949-53).
IN ADDITION to his private
practice in Ophthalmology in
Shreveport, Dr. Breffeilh con-tinued
a clinical teaching posi-tion
with LSU's Postgraduate
Medical School at Confederate
Memorial Medical Center until
1967 when the postgraduate
faculty began being trans-ferred
as the nucleus of the
clinical faculty of the LSU
School of Medicine in Shreve-port.
Dr. Breffeilh became a
member of the new school's
clinical faculty at that time.
Dr. Breffeilh has been a
diplomat of the American
Board of Ophthalmology since
1949. He is a fellow in the
American Academy of Ophthal-mology
and Otolaryngology,
the American College, of Sur-geons,
and the International
College of 'Surgeons.
He is a member of the.
Shreveport Medical Society,
Louisiana State Medical Socie-ty
American Medical Assn.,
Southern Medical Assn., Inter-national
Assn. of Ophthalmolo-gy,
Louisiana Eye, Ear, Nose
and Throat Society, Louisiana
Mississippi Ophthalmology and

Dr. Pou has been in private
practice in Shreveport for
many years. He also serves as
Chief of the, Otolaryngology
Service at Confederate Memo-rial
Medical Center.
A native of Shreveport, Dr.
Pou received the B.A. degree
from Tulane University in 1943
and Doctor of Medicine degree
from Tulane University School
of Medicine in 1946. He served
the internship at Charity Hos-pital
in Shreveport and the
residency in Otolaryngology at
the Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat
Hospital in New Orleans.
DR. POU HELD academic
appointment as clinical assist-,
ant professor of Otolaryngology
on the LSU Postgraduate Medi-cal
School Faculty at Confeder-ate
Memorial Medical Center
until its transfer to the clinical
faculty of the new LSU School
of Medicine in Shreveport in
1967. He became a member of
the school's clinical faculty at
that time.
Dr. Pou is a dipiomate of the"
American Board of Otolaryngo-logy,
a member of the Amer-ican
Academic of Ophthalmol-ogy,
the American Laryngolog-ical,
Rhinological and Otologi-cal
Society, the American Medi-cal

Dr. Trichel has been in
private practice in Shreveport
for many years as staff
urologist, Highland Clinic and
Hospital in Shreveport. He also
serves as- Chief of Urology
Service at Confederate Memo-rial
Medical Center.
A native of Harrisonburg,
Dr. Trichel attended Louisiana
State University in Baton
Rouge, where he received the
B.S. degree in 1937, and the
Louisiana S t a t e University
School of Medicine in New
Orleans, where he received the
Doctor of Medicine degree in
1941. ,He completed the intern-ship
at Highland Hospital,
Shreveport, in 1942. He was a
fellow in Urology, Harvard
Medical School, Boston, 1946 to
1948, and resident in Urology,
Peter Bent Brigham Hospital,
Boston, 1945 to 1947, and Chief
R e s i d e n t , Urology, Charity
Hospital, Shreveport, 1947 to
1948.
IN ADDITION to his hospital
appointments with Highland
Clinic and H o s p i t a l and
Confederate Memorial Medical
Center, Dr. Trichel served on
the LSU Postgraduate Medical
School Faculty as clinical
associate "professor of Urology
from 1958 until its transfer to
the new medical school at
which time he became a
member of the School's clinical
faculty as associate, professor
of Urology. ,
He has been a consultant to
Barksdale Air Force Base
Hospital since 1948.
Dr. Trichel is board certified

membeirship in the American
