15 July 42 - Activated - Fort Jackson, Col. Reagan
assumed command.
July 1942 - Red Cross workers arrived.
Nurses began to arrive during previous week.
First hospitalization of member of unit, Capt.
Middleton for serum reaction (tetanus).
First member of unit ordered out, Capt. Bannerman
back to LaGarde General Hospital.
First promotion in unit, Sgt. L. J. Garglione to
Staff Sgt.
Began receiving transportation.
Physical therapist and head dietitian reported.
First CDD in unit, Pvt. Clarence E. Baker.
31 Aug. - Major Odom, Capts. Ellender and Meyer
transferred to 91st Evacuation Hospital, in excess of
T/0.
4 Sept. - Moved into new area in Fort Jackson. Now
have sufficient room.
19 Sept. - Review put on for Col. Scott, Commanding
Officer, Station Hospital.
Cadre of 30 EM to 77th General Hospital. First
weddings in unit.
Officers and men taken out of Station Hospital. too
crowded. Eight hour training schedule instituted.
Entering 1Oth week of training.
5 Oct. - EM go back into hospital from 7-11 A.M.
daily. Officers instruct EM only - do not treat patients.
10 Oct. - EM beat officers in softball, 5-2.
17 Oct. - Officers beat EM, 3-1.
During previous week all personnel abstracted and
listed their duties upon receipt of movement orders.
"From recent developments. it's the first time that
we've really felt that we might leave soon. 11
19 Oct. - Col. Heninger received orders to report
Fort Benning.
31 Oct. - Officers' club party at Wade Hampton Hotel.
1st Lt. Burt promoted to Capt. Tents arrived - two
baggage carsfull.
Leaves for some EM and officers.
18 Nov. - Out of Station Hospital again - too crowded.
Officers and EM putting up ward tents and shelter tents.
Much practice of ambulance loading. litter drill. etc.
Teaching in small groups of 8-12 in huts.
Journal club meetings twice a week.
Officers able to put up ward tent in 18 minutes.
