following report for the month of December is submitted;
a. The 64th General Hospital we.s officially deactivated midnight ,
20 December 1945, after three and one-half years of service. The unit was
activated at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, on July 15, 1942.
b. All remaining (2 officers) were transferred to the 232d }/.ED.
SERV. BH. and attached to ·the 6lst Station Hospital until they receive
orders for transshipment to ·f::;he United States. All Nurses, Fhys ical Therapy
Aides, Hospital Dietitians and Enlisted l\Cen were transferred or redeployed
previous to December 20, 1945, and the majority of the personnel not
immediately scheduled for redeploynlCnt were assie;ned to the 6lst Station
Hospital for duty. A fevt of the Enlisted hlen were a.lso t~ansferred to the
99th Field Hospital, 232d Hedical Service Battalion and the 303d :&~dical
Pro. Platoon.
c. Col Henry R. Carstens 1 i•I C~ Cotnmanditlg Officer of this l:Ios pita 1
since October 30. 1945, was Jc;ransferred to the 7th Replacement Depot on the
20th of December.
d. The Princips.l Chief Nurse, Lt.Col.Alice I.1. Gritsavage, ANC,
transferred to the l65th General Hos pita 1 (France) and de ps.rted on the
lOth of December.
e. 5 Nurses~ 1 Pnysica.l Therapy Aides~ 17 Officers and appro~ioately
7 Enlisted Men were redeployed.
f. Capt. i.1Ja.rgaret B. Bussey, ANC, was presented the Bronze Medal
on 5 December 1945 as a. reward fQr her. services in the Surgical Service at
the time the hospital was overtaxed with casualties during the drives on
the north Ita lia.n front. ·
