23 !.lay l94L, the following report for the month of'. October 1945 is submi ttod: •
The Redeployment '?ror,ram is really beginnint; to wreck the L'Ol"li:nistrative
functions of this hospital. Trained. men and officers, always at a premium,
suddenly are ordered to depart for the Replacement Depot with no trained'
repbcements available . There just aren 1t enough enlisted men and officers
capable of learning and having tir·.e enough to digest the i.ntricnsies of army
administration. The month of November will certainly _be chaotic and the quality
of work will diminish as tirae goes on. The whole program is a morale breaker
for those unfortunate enou.gh to remain behind to take the brunt.
Practically all of the remainder of the officers and nurses and enlisted
men who originally ~arne averse ffi with the 64th General Hospital went home on
redeployment.
Arproximately 78 officers .1nd nurses of the 70th Genere.l Hospital were
transferred to this unit when the 70th General Hos nital disbanded. A large
group of enlisted men also were sent over from that unit and from the 37th General
Hospital .
Lt. Col. Alice ifi . Gritsava e;e , ANC, was transferred to this ore:mization
from the 37th General HospitD.l, arriving here on the' ?th of October. She
took over the duties of Chief Nurse from Major Ollie 1·1. :?lunkett, ANC, who acted
as Chief Nurse since Lt . Col. Judith E. Hallin, .1\.NC, departed on the 27th of
July .
v·:~1e n Col. Robert A. Kimbrou,s-h, Jr . , i.:. C., was transferred to the 7th
Replacement Depot on the 20th of September, the E:x:ecutLve Officer, Col . Charles
J . ihangolarr~:: , l.i. C., assumed cotJ\Iiland . He in turn was relieved when Col.
·Henry R. Carstens, I,1 . C., forr,1erly the r::onunnnding officer of the 17th General
Hospital, usswned cor~1ma:nd on October 30 th.
76 nurses and 24 officers were transshipped t o the United States during
October .
The unit strength as of October 1, 19L~-5 1·:as 220 officers, nurses, h"D
and PTA r:ith 609 enlisted men. On October 31, 19L;5 it wcs 162 officer~, nnrees,
