Redeployment and Discharge - 64th General Hospital
(8) The work on the Readjustment cards for redeployment was completed
the week of 20 May. Personnel authenticated their scores by
initialing their cards. Point value was the chief topic of interest
and "twelve pointers" made their owners extremely happy!
(12) On the 21 May. four enlisted men with scores of 100 or over were
transferred tot he 27th Replacement Depot for trans -shipment to the
United States under the readjustment plan. They were: T/Sgt Robert
Sallee, T/5 Arthur Baker, and Pfc's Raymond Klein and George Mills.
Only two of the men, Baker and Mills were original members of the
unit who came overseas in August 1943.
(13) On 26 May. four enlisted men, T/4 William Heilmeier, Pfc's Charles
Conti and George Jarvis and Pvt William Gumbosky were released from
assignment to this unit in accordance with war department policy of
discharge of enlisted men forty-two years and over.
(15) The last week in May, 18 enlisted men with 85 points and over, were
released from assignment for trans -shipment to the United States.
They were the envy of 540 other enlisted men. (23 June 1945)
During the month the turnover of personnel continued with enlisted men over
38 years of age and enlisted men with adjusted service rating score of
90 or better leaving the organization. (24 September 1945)
d. The unit strength as of 31 October 1945, totaled 162 for Officers, Nurses
Hospital Dietitians and Physical Therapy Aides and an assigned strength
of 1. 062 for enlisted personnel. As of 30 November 1945, the strength
for Officers, Nurses, Hospital Dietitians and Physical Therapy Aides
dropped to 36 and the enlisted strength dropped to 131.
e. 41 Nurses, 4 HD, 1 PT and 25 officers were transferred to the 7th
Replacement Depot in November for return to the U.S. (20 December 1945)
