| Title | A comparison of a classic screwball comedy and a modern day screwball comedy |

| Abstract/Introduction | In this paper I will analyze a classic comedy, "The Philadelphia Story" (1940), and a modern day screwball comedy, "Four Weddings and a Funeral" (1994). Before I begin I will determine just what kind of ingredients are necessary to turn out a screwball comedy. I will then have the fun task of discussing how these comic elements are translated to the silver screen. In particular I will demonstrate how these comic ingredients are interpreted by the film, The Philadelphia Story, and how they are interpreted by the modern day film, Four Weddings and a Funeral. In comparing a classic screwball film with a modern day film, I will be able to note how, with the passage of time, the interpretation of these basic ingredients change. |
