| Abstract/Introduction | For Woolf there is no singular moment to be recognized, unless it is the present-present, and even then that moment is seen in direct relation to how the other facets of time impact upon it. There is, in essence, only the grand, layered conglomeration of events, images, and possibilities that constitute Woolf's "moment." The chapters to come will explore several views of Woolf's method, illuminate her concept of multi-faceted time, and discuss how she stretches the present between the past and the future, creating a time in which the past, present, and future lie one upon the other, building impressions and memories that pile upon our limited view of the "present" in short, creating a moment that is never singular, but always layered and complex. |
