| Abstract/Introduction | Lead is the heaviest non-radioactive element, bearing the atomic number of 82. Termed the "useful metal" humankind's association with lead has lasted for centuries (1). The association of lead with writing continues to this day, as the graphite in pencils still bears the name of its toxic predecessor. Early usage included inscribing thin sheets of the element, and styluses made of the soft metal were used to write upon papyrus. |
