| Facilitator Log | Cesarea and Salvador talk about their three daughters, Rebecca, Carolina and Brigitte. They also talk about coming to the United States. Salvador came from El Salvador in 1963 and Cesarea came from Mexico in 1963 as well. Cesarea arrived only three days before the assassination of President Kennedy. Cesarea arrived in Arabi, which is near New Orleans, to work for a family with five children. She had agreed to work for them for $100 a week but was paid only $40 a week upon her arrival. She eventually found work with a family at the Canadian Consulate that was much more equitable. Salvador and Cesarea evacuated New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina but thought that they would be back in a few days. Instead they had to stay in Houston for a month before returning. |
