The board of supervisors of Louisiana State university Saturday approved a half-million dollar increase in the allotment for medical school expansion in New Orleans and gave architects the go-ahead signal after reviewing preliminary plans.
The action was one of several taken in the board session, the first one open to the public in several years.
The board also:
Approved the appointment of Daniel Borth, assistant comptroller, to the post of comptroller, formerly held by Gen. Troy H. Middleton who took over last Thursday as president of the university.
Granted Middleton more time to make a recommendation for dean of the university, a post vacated Thursday by Dr. Paul M. Hebert, and approved the temporary appointment of Fred C. Frey as acting dean....The site for the new building will be secured from Charity hospital, in return for other properties in the city now owned by the university and the president and comptroller were ordered to proceed "immediately" with final negotiations with the hospital. Middleton said the agreement would include razing of buildings now located on the property by Charity hospital, which would have all the salvageable materials.
