Enough medical skill to cure the ills of 20,000,000 people will be represented when the annual convention of the Southern Medical association opens at the Municipal auditorium Tuesday. The galaxy of distinguished names which will be represented on the programs of the convention will include virtually every well known physician in the South, and in addition those of specialists from government and Eastern hospitals.
A score of specialists will discuss the diagnosis and control of syphilis, headed by Dr. Thomas Parran, surgeon-general of the United States health service, who has conducted a militant campaign against veneral diseases, and who visited New Orleans early in November in an attempt to organize health ans social units in the fight against the disease...Tonight Dr. Reynaldo dos Santos, internationally famous surgeon of the Lisbon, Portugal, university, will receive the Rudolph Matas award, donated by the Violet Hart fund, for his work on vascular surgery, and Dr. Matas will also be honored by the dedication to him of the Tulane university medical ibrary, in ceremonies at Hutchinson Memorial. The presentation of the award will be made to Dr. dos Santos in a program sponsored by the Orleans Parish Medical association...Pathologists today -- In conjunction with the Southern medical meeting the fifth annual conference of Southern Pathologists will be held today, under the auspices of the L. S. U. school of medicine and Charity hospital. Dr. Rigney D'Aunoy, chairman, will preside.
