Dr. Joseph A. Danna, 77, physician and surgeon in New Orleans for more than 50 years, died at 12:05 a. m. today in Hotel Dieu.
A native of Palermo, Italy, Dr. Danna came to New Orleans with his parents while a child, attended Jackson school and Boys' Central High school and entered medical school of Tulane university
in 1896.
His medical career was highlighted by his success in World War I in organizing US Army base hospital No. 102, known as the Loyola unit, which served with the Italian army until April, 1919.
The nucleus of his staff was a group Of 10 sisters of Charity, headed temporarily by the superintendent of the Charity hospital school of nursing and later by a member of the order from Birmingham who was named chief nurse for the expedition.
