One by one the medical profession is bringing under control the major diseases of mankind.
But cancer and heart disease —they still remain killers.
What about the fight against them? Where does it stand today?
The battle is progressing but the conquest is a good way off.

THAT WAS THE opinion of five doctors in a spur-of-the moment 'round table discussion today at the Louisiana State Medical Society meeting, now in its second day at The Roosevelt.
They are Drs. Walter Moss, president of the State Society; W. Robyn Hardy, New Orleans; Max M. Green, president-elect of the State Society; J. Theo Brierre, New Orleans, chairman of the meeting's arrangements committee; and Rafael Sanchez, publicity phairman.
Dr. Hardy acted as spokesman for the group. "The most important diseases
now are cancer and heart disease in all their forms. We have certain specific treatments we use now but we all know these aren't enough," he said.
What's the newest idea in the treatment of heart disease?
"Heart surgery. Why just before we sat down I was talking to a doctor whose heart was operated on three years ago. We're I finding out more about veins, 'arteries, how to control the flow of blood for long operations. Fifteen years ago we wouldn't have dared think the way we are now."[PHOTO] DRS. MAX GREEN AND J.
