Diabetes is Number Eight in the causes of death by disease.
It is estimated that more than two million people in the U.S. have diabetes—with half of them unaware of it.
Another three million are expected to become diabetics sometime during their lives.
MANY OF US know that diabetes is a chronic condition which develops when the body can't use some of the food we eat, especially sugars and starches. And we know that
diabetes can be fatal unless
properly treated. But there are
many other things which we, as
laymen, don't know about this
ailment.
Wednesday night, a free public forum will be held at the LSU medical school to give the facts on diabetes. It will be co-sponsored by LSU, The Item, and the Louisiana Diabetic
Assn.
