As part of the local observance here, this week, of Diabetes Detection Week, 10,000 employes of 11 New Orleans firms will be tested for diabetes.
This is the first time such a wide-scale, voluntary diabetes detection drive has ever been held in the city. The mass testing will be conducted under the auspices of the Orleans Parish Medical Society. Dr. Daniel W. Hayes is chairman of the committee in charge.
The society will provide the business firms with 10,000 units of a testing device called the "St. Louis Dreypak," Dr. Hayes explained. This consists of a piece of filter paper, specially treated and a pre-addressed, return envelope.
