A New Orleans psychiatrist today challenged the widely accepted belief that ideal child-training practices will mold Junior into a stable, well-rounded adult personality.
In a Chicago speech, Dr. Ian Stevenson, associate professor in the department of psychiatry and neurology at the Louisiana State university school of medicine, said:
"Despite assertions to the contrary, there is no evidence of a predictable relationship between various child-training practices and the form of the later personality.
Dr. Stevenson said there is no final proof that the personality is more plastic in infancy and childhood.
His paper was presented to the annual meeting of the American Psychiatric Association.
