The Louisiana State Medical Society opened a three-day convention here today, with an attendance estimated at 1500.
The first open meeting was held tonight. Dr. Joseph A. O'Hara, president of the association and president of the state board of health, presided. The invocation was delivered by the Rev. Marion S. Monk, pastor of the First Methodist church. The welcome address on behalf of the Rapides Medical Society was delivered by Dr. Noel T. Simmons, vice-president of the society, in the place of Dr. Jack T. Cappel, who was recently injured in an automobile accident. The welcome address on behalf of the city of Alexandria was delivered by Mayor V. V. Lamkin. The response was made by Dr. Clarence A. Lorio, president-elect of the state medical society.
