Louisiana State university school of medicine grants from outside agencies during the 1956-57 fiscal year totaled $911,465, nearly twice that received the previous years, according to Dean William Frye.
Dean Frye said the 98 research grants were distributed among 11 departments of the school. The department of pathology received the largest share, almost $200,000 in 19 grants, with six departments gaining training grants and six receiving scholarship grants.
More than half the grants came from the National Institute of Health, which awarded $564,365 representing 44 grants, Dr. Frye said.
