A man who handles three academic jobs at once and who knows more about Louisiana's population movements than anyone else will head the new branch of Louisiana State University at New Orleans.
Dr. Homer Hitt, dean of the newly created'college, is one of the south's leading authorities onpopulation, its growth, movements, and distribution.
In addition to directing the Institute of Population Research at LSU, he is head of LSU's department of sociology and rural sociology, teaches at least one course in sociology (population problems) each semester, and since 1954, has served as associate dean of the LSU Graduate School.

Dr. Hitt, who received his first two academic degrees from LSU and another M.A. md a Ph.D. degree from Har-/ard, believes that "a good, sound general education is the best hope of our societv."
