Local students were among the 950 who received degrees at Louisiana State university's 97th annual commencement Saturday.
Degrees were conferred in the afternoon ceremony by LSU president Troy H. Middleton. Baccalaureate services were held Saturday morning.
Among the 950 graduates were 25 students who received the doctor of philosophy degree. Some 625 were awarded bachelor's degrees, and 300 received master's and professional degrees.
This commencement brings the total number of degrees awarded by LSU in its 99-year history to nearly 40,000. Since its founding, LSU has awarded approximately 6600 bachelor's degrees; 5100 professional degrees; 7430 master's degrees and 550 Ph.D, degrees.
