A safari of investigators from Louisiana State university has found the huma,n parasitic disease schistosomiasis in baboons in East Africa, announced Dr. Jojeph. Midler, assistant professor of parasitology in the LSU school of medicine.
The expedition went to collect data on fat in the arteries of baboons. Its studies last July and August were made in cooperation with the Southwest Foundation for Research and Education, San Antonio, through a grant from the Louisiana Heart Asociation.
"This is one of the three species of blood flukes which infect man," said Dr. Miller. "Parasitologists have always considered the human the only important reservoir of schisto-soma mansoni.
