Increasingly the doctors of the nation are helping women to lead happier lives.
They didn't put it that way at the closing session Wednesday of the Louisiana State Medical Society convention at the Roosevelt hotel.
But they told how, with today's medical treatment, half the infertile women are becoming pregnant.
SHINING HAPPINESS
And they told about the shining happiness in the eyes of a woman after a plastic surgeon has given her a brand new nose.
Speakers at the convention, which was attended by more than 100ft physicians said also:
1. A woman is sometimes infertile because she is convinced her husband does not love her.
2. Polio is less prevalent in overcrowded urban areas than in rural sections.
3. An ill-shapen nose is usually an ill-functioning nose.
4. If the previously infertile woman can get through her first three months of pregnancy she has few complications at time of delivery.
PROBLEM DISCUSSED The problem of the infertile; woman was discussed at convention sessions by Dr. David G. Decker, Rochester, Minn.,
gynecology at Mayo clinic. .
Dr. Decker said a study was made at Mayo of 100 previously infertile women, who finally be-j came pregnant.
"Of these 100," he explained, "only 74 successfully completed pregnancy. Now in a normal group of women there is usually only about a 10 to 13 per cent loss."
Dr. Decker said the loss for the previously infertile women was usually during the first j three months of pregnancy and I generally resulted from a miscarriage. .. Dr. Gerald F Joseph of Baton Rouge, said when a surgeon re-constructs a patient's nose today; he" is thinking primarily of the patient's health. The resulting prettier nose, he added, is merely lagniappe.
