An instrument which will eliminate operations and subsequential blindness resulting from some eye diseases is being made available by the Southern Eye Bank to eye specialists in the Southern region.
In making the announcement, Robert L. Simpson, president, said that the "light coagulator is an innovation in the treatment of such eye diseases as some tumors, certain types of retinal detachment and some cor-neal vascular lesions.
"Up to this time, treatment for these diseases was done only by surgery which frequently resulted in the loss of sight. The light coagulator, however, in many cases does away with the need for operations and long rest periods."
Explaining the machine's principles, Simpson said it has "concentrated sunlight," seven times as strong as sunlight, which is focused carefully on, and coagulates, the diseased part.PHOTO: INSPECTING A MACHINE known as the light coagulant at the Southern Eye Bank are Dr.George Haik
